UPDATE May 2010 "Chintsa Bush and Beach Walks" Thanks to the new and inspired/inspiring FoC Lynne, signage is under design for the trails. There are currently e-mails bouncing around as we finalse content. WESSA EP donated further funds to the cause and information signage will be available on the trail as a result.

Mike Denison has engaged Nolla Projects for further support to address alien invasive vegetation. This was first addressed in 2009 and a re-visit is required by the Working for the Coast team in order to manage the spread of alien species.

Under the guidance of WESSA we will begin a rehabilitation programme of the development scar in the Merryhill area of Chintsa East.

Thanks to Phillip Wilkinson and Laura Conde of WESSA Border Kei who have secured some funding from the Lomas Trust for the rehabilitation of development scars in the area. The Friends group have partnered WESSA BK in addressing public space through the implementation of the rehabilitation project.

UPDATE January 2010 - The trail is being accessed by a few residents. I believe this partly due to the lack of signage, for which we are still awaiting a working budget from Nolla Projects. The developers in the area have been contacted to re-visit the site with a tractor and bush cutter to assist with cutting back the paths which are a bit overgrown. FoC is hoping that 2010 will see a further injection of energy and motivation from outside organisations to assist in the continued rehabilitation of the area.

UPDATE 25/05/09 - A meeting took place between Foc, WESSA & Nolla Projects last week to look at the next stage of rehabilitation. Simon Bosazza has agreed to meet with the Nolla working group to run a session on appropriate eradication techniques. We will start at the "superbowl" and move out. The larger area will be divided into working quadrants and time frames will be established for each quadrant to be sucessfully cleared. Dambile of Nolla Projects must be complimented for his eagerness to work with FoC on this project.

UPDATE 15/05/09 - The rehabilitation project is well underway and has grown into a "Chintsa Bush Walk" initiative. It is hoped this will then grow into a "Bush & Beach" option once the issue surrounding the servitude through Long Beach Dunes has been clarified. We have had the support of developers in the area who have put on their bush cutter and a number of walking paths have been cut. The hole, once an eye-sore, is now being called the super bowl and has been cleared and a wooden rail put in around the perimeter to stop quad bike access. A meeting with Nolla Projects is taking place on Monday 18 May to look at optimising their support on alien vegetation removal. Special thanks to Laura Conde of WESSA & Simon Bosazza for his massive effort and Darryl (who provided endless passive support to Si's energy).

UPDATE 25/03/09 - Two site visits have taken place with WESSA BK and FOC interested parties. Simon Bozzaza has provided a "Way Forward" that includes a medium term maintenance plan. The developers in the area have also agreed (in principle) to support the efforts of FOC & WESSA. If anyone is interested to be included in the project, contact Mike mike@ahj.co.za for further documents, plans and implementation strategies.
