- Treasurer’s report
Martelize Nel read a summary of all the financials for the past year. The report will be included as part of the full annual report. Martelize summarized that as FoC income is more than R50,000, the FoC will need to be audited.
- Project overview
- A PowerPoint presentation of all the FoC projects was showed and the project leader for each project gave an overview and summary their project. The following issues arose during discussion on the projects:-
- Project 6 - Byletts project: What will they do for water to maintain gardens? Michael Denison and Michael Ford confirmed that the school had bore hole water and the use of water tanks
- Project 10 - Rainwater harvesting at Chintsa East: A few issues were raised over the projects not being completed and taps still leaking. Michael Denison said that the projects will be revisited and any outstanding issues will be completed soon. There was alot of discussion over ways that the learners at Chintsa and Bulugha School can be educated on how to use the water tanks correctly. One suggestion was to appoint water monitors and all for the eco-committee to take responsibility over monitoring water usage. These ideas will be discussed with the schools and monitored through the eco-school programme by Jo Ford and Nokuphumla Pakamile at Chintsa School.
- Project 13 – Waterwise: It was agreed that this was a very worthwhile project and that the Friends group would support it by providing some transport and resources. Michael Ford will set up the project on GivenGain in order to raise funds to support it.
- Project 14 – DUNE Surfing – It was agreed that the name of the project would be changed as it is confusing.
- Thanks
Michael Denison gave thanks to all the committee for their hard work and dedication to the FoC this year. He also thanked Marjorie Ford and all the regular donors to the feeding scheme.
- 2010 vision
- It was agreed that a proper website is needed as the wikemy.org is not the most user friendly and attractive website. Sean Price committed to setting up the website.
- Michael Ford shared the e-machine idea with the group. It was agreed that it was an amazing idea and that the FoC group would do what they could to promote it and gain support. A promotional leaflet for the e-machine is available on the GivenGain website.
- Elections
It was agreed that the 2008 – 2009 committee would remain in office for another 12 months to continue with the work and progress started. Michael Ford was officially elected onto the committee for the 2010 period as he is project leader for so many initiatives.
- Any other business
- Sal Price suggested that when a project is being established, a skills sheet could be sent out to the FoC group requesting help from anyone that possesses those skills and are able to give their time.
- Laura Conde suggested that the committee need to work with other individuals with the vision to take over from the existing committee in 2011. It was agreed that more people other than the committee need to be active.
- It was suggested that the project leaflets that Michael Ford has created need to be sent out electronically but also printed to put in shops, etc. This may make more residents aware of the work we do and encourage more people to get involved.
The AGM closed at 5.30 pm.
