Friend of Chintsa Meeting

11th February 2009 - General meeting

Agenda welcome and Apologies were made.

Adoption of previous minutes and Mike gave an introduction to the meeting.

-Martelize fed back the amendments made to the constitution. There were copies available at the meeting for the friends to look at and make any further comments. This constitution is now going to be passed on to the Department of Social Development to be registered as a NPO and then followed on to SARS to become a PBO.

-Martelize also read out the main points of the Financial Report.

-Membership forms were available at the meeting for any one to take and fill in. They can be returned to the AHJ office in Cintsa East or brought to the next meeting. A R10 minimum membership is required.

-Project Clean Up Mike explained this project to all present. Simon translated in to Xhosa. , There has been municipal support, providing bins, and there is a rubbish collection every Thursday at the entrance to Cintsa East. Help is needed to collect all bags to that one sight very week. The village needs to be split in to manageable quadrants with community volunteers and volunteers from the Friends of Chintsa.over the next 2 weeks. As each quadrant is identified, black bags can be distributed from Blondie and the Coastal Clean up. Ian Crawford also volunteered to use his bakkie to help load up rubbish up to the collection point. 2 sites will need to b uncovered; perhaps Doug Kunhard can be approached to use his excavator. Again it was mentioned that a notice board needs to be erected to tell all about this project… and thought on ways of improving systems of communication. Ian Crawford also talked about trying to distribute fruit trees for each household for after the clean up. Perhaps Mango, avocado or nut trees which provide a great source of nutrition and can be sold. We need to look in to a source to provide these trees.

-Forthcoming eventsEveryone was invited to Warner’s slide presentation at the country club on 2009-02-17 At 7pm. -Mike told us about the Beach Festival on 2009-03-28. Friends will be needed to volunteer for that day. On that day 8-10 villagers will be selected to join a surfing academy giving an opportunity for them to become a life saver competent surfer and instructor over the years to come.
