Friends of Chintsa Committee Meeting

25th March 2010 4,10pm

Held at AHJ office

Present: Michael Denison Joanne Ford Werner Nel Michael Ford Sean Price Lynne Farrenhoken Laura Conde Marjorie Ford

The following issues were discussed in the meeting:

1. Project Clean – up Michael Ford reported on the clean-up project and that a great deal of progress has been made in educating the village on their refuse. He reported that he was finding it difficult leading the project all the time and would like to hand the project over. It was agreed that a strategy is needed to tackle section 17 as a clean-up of some of sites has been done in the past but as FoC have not installed bins, the sites have become filled again. Michael Denison is going to meet with SANCO and try to strengthen links between FoC, SANCO and the municipality. Sean Price suggested that a representative from the village is hired to hand out bags on a weekly basis and to liaise with residents and report on the number of bags handed out/collected, etc. It was agreed that this is a good idea and will be looked into. Once Mike D has spoken to SANCO, a meeting will be held to come up with strategy for project.

2. Recycling Lynne reported that she had had a meeting with a guy who specialized in recycling and that he was interested in installing 4 recycling igloos in Chintsa. They would take glass, metal and plastic bottles and would be emptied monthly. This was debated in detail and it was decided that one would be installed at Buccaneers, two in Chintsa and one in Brakfontein. They will be placed opposite the Country Club, outside the municipality building. Lynne will design good signage and leaflets about the initiative, Mike Ford and Mike D to liaise with Lynne about that.

3. DUNE Surfing A new name needs to be thought of as DUNE surfing is not appropriate. Mike D will now lead project as previous leadership did not develop. Check out www.wikemy.or for more information on this project.

4. Big Green ‘e’ machine Michael Ford recapped on the Big Green ‘e; machine project. Mike F and Mike D will approach Richard Bullock to champion project. The committee agreed that we should go ahead with the project and start to spend money on refurbishing the vehicle.

5. Website It was agreed that the new website would be www.friendsofchintsa.org. Mike F showed the committee www.childreach.com as a guide for developing our new website. Mike F also commented that the new website must be linked with www.wikemy.org. Sean Price will start to develop website.

6. Financials Werner reported that there is around R19, 000 that is not allocated to a specific project. It was agreed that this money will be used on signage, etc.

7. GivenGain Michael Ford fed back to committee about payment problems that donors to feeding scheme have had with GivenGain. He explained that both banks and GivenGain deny it is their problem but that GivenGain admitted that the issue may be with the new VISA verification process. Donors will be contacted and an explanation and apology will be made on behalf of Friends of Chintsa. Mike F will keep the committee up to date with any further progress from GivenGain.

8. The meeting closed at 5.30pm. The date for the next meeting has not been decided of yet.
