Learning to surf is not jut about learning to stand up on a board,it is about exploring and developing an understanding of the ocean and the coastal environment so that we feel personally rewarded by our time in it!Standing up on a board is only part of the satisfaction of the bigger picture of surfing!!A detailed and extremely informative theory lesson is spent on our coastal layout (preferably the bay and section of coast line that will be used for the surf academy) explaining rip currents, mass ocean movement, types of breaks, wave formation, how wind affects the ocean, terminology to how tides work etc.Without this knowledge of the ocean and its surroundings surfing can become extremely tricky and dangerous and is therefore one of our main priorities to get this information across to our young and upcoming local surfers!!
